Nov 2020. Wat Phra Yai is one of the must-see statues on Koh Samui. The grandeur is astounding; large, imposing and beautiful, all at the same time. It will not take long to admire the statue and the rest of the property, but it is a worthwhile stop when visiting the island.

Wat Phra Yai, known in English as the Big Buddha Temple, is a Buddhist temple on Ko Phan (also spelled Koh Fan or Koh Faan), a small island offshore from the northeastern area of Ko Samui, Thailand, connected to that island by a short causeway 3 kilometres (1.9 miles) north of Samui International Airport. As its name indicates, it is home to a giant, 12-metre-high (39-foot) gold-painted Buddha.. Wat Phra Yai, or Big Buddha Temple, is located on the small island of Koh Fan in the North East corner of the Koh Samui, not far from Koh Samui Airport. Koh Fan is now joined to Koh Samui by man made causeway with a road running across it. Wat Phra Yai is the most famous landmark on Koh Samui and clearly visible to people arriving on the island.
